# Visa Consultation

Understand your position, discuss your options and plan your next steps with individual legal advice.

## Advice before you choose a visa route

A Visa Consultation gives you a structured discussion of your circumstances, the legal questions affecting your plans and the practical steps to consider next. You may be planning a visit, work, study, family reunion, a longer-term move or an international application. The aim is to understand the position before committing to an application or making travel arrangements that may be difficult to change.

Bring your purpose, nationality, current country, broad immigration history and the questions you want answered. The consultation considers the information you provide; it does not assume that a route is suitable merely because its title sounds relevant. Where a question depends on documents or foreign law, that need should be identified clearly.

Legal advice is included in every paid Rusetat service across our catalogue. This page also gives you a way to request a focused Visa Consultation before deciding on further services. If you are already a paying client, tell us which service you purchased so the consultation can be coordinated with the advice included in that engagement.

## What you can discuss

- Purpose and possible routes: the relationship between your intended activities and the visa or immigration categories that may need consideration.

- Current status: permission conditions, expiry dates, travel or re-entry questions and the significance of a pending application.

- Work, study and family plans: legal and practical questions involving an employer, institution, partner, dependant or accompanying family member.

- Document preparation: what information needs review, inconsistencies to resolve, translations or certifications to investigate and the appropriate sharing process.

- Previous applications: the effect of earlier refusals, overstays, changes of circumstances or other history on the questions that need professional assessment.

- Deadlines and next steps: which matters are urgent, which depend on an authority or another professional, and what a further engagement would cover.

A consultation does not automatically include lodging an application, drafting every supporting document, an appeal, court proceedings or representation before an authority. The written scope must identify those services if they are required. Relevant advice within a paid service remains included; separate work and any additional fees must be explained before you authorise it.

## Who the consultation is for

You can enquire as an individual, couple, family, employer or authorised representative. It can be useful when you are comparing routes, do not know which questions to ask, need to understand an existing permission, or want advice before paying for an application service. Employers and families should explain whose interests the consultation concerns and who may give instructions.

If a refusal, expiry, detention, removal, court date or other urgent deadline is involved, state that at first contact and telephone the office. Do not wait for a chatbot response or assume an enquiry extends a deadline. The team will need to establish the appropriate adviser and whether the requested work can be undertaken in time.

## How the consultation works

- Send a brief enquiry. Select Visa Consultation on the contact form, describe your goal and list the main questions. Leave out passport numbers and sensitive documents.

- Agree the appointment and scope. The team explains the format, adviser, preparation needed, charges where applicable and how the consultation relates to any service you have already purchased.

- Share information through an agreed channel. Provide relevant facts and documents only after the appropriate process has been explained. Tell us about material changes or deadlines.

- Discuss your position. Explore the legal questions, practical choices, dependencies and matters needing additional investigation or specialist advice.

- Agree what happens next. Establish the next actions, responsibilities and any further work. Ask for clarification of important advice and retain the written scope and follow-up provided for your engagement.

No fixed fee, duration, appointment availability or written-opinion package is implied by this page. Those details are set out for the consultation you request. You should know what you are purchasing before paying.

## How to prepare

Prepare a short timeline, the purpose of your plans, your current location and nationality, relevant expiry dates, and a list of questions. If there has been a previous application or refusal, identify it. A clear account is more useful than sending a large unsorted file.

Keep originals safe. Do not post documents in public chat or send another person’s records without authority. Where a child or other represented person is involved, explain the relationship and your authority. Our [Privacy notice ](https://rusetatmigrationinternational.org/privacy/)explains the handling of personal information and your rights.

## Human legal advice and professional scope

Individual advice is provided within the agreed engagement by the appropriate human adviser. Work requiring a regulated legal professional must be handled by someone appropriately qualified and authorised for that jurisdiction and activity. Ask who will advise you and which legal system the advice addresses.

South African legal practice is regulated under the [Legal Practice Act 28 of 2014 ](https://www.gov.za/documents/legal-practice-act), where applicable. Destination-country advice may require a suitably authorised professional there. We do not represent every staff member as an attorney or claim authority to practise foreign law merely because we assist with international enquiries.

General website articles can help you find information and prepare questions. Ruse AI is coming soon and is not currently available for questions or assessments. They do not replace the consultation, provide an official eligibility decision or create professional representation. Ask for a human discussion before acting on an answer that depends on your documents or legal circumstances.

## What the consultation can and cannot decide

You should come away with a clearer understanding of the questions, options and next actions relevant to the agreed scope. Advice is based on the information available at the time. Further facts, document review or a change in law may change the assessment.

The consultation cannot guarantee a visa, appointment, processing period, job, admission at a border or a particular authority’s decision. The [Immigration Act 13 of 2002 ](https://www.gov.za/documents/immigration-act)and applicable regulations govern South African immigration; foreign destinations apply their own rules. Check time-sensitive requirements with the relevant authority and adviser.

Do not make a non-refundable booking or change your status based only on a general conversation. Discuss the consequences for your own matter. Read our [Terms of service ](https://rusetatmigrationinternational.org/terms/)and [Travel information ](https://rusetatmigrationinternational.org/travel-terms/)for the relationship between advice, service delivery, bookings and official decisions.

Questions, answered

## Common questions

Find an initial answer here, then ask about your circumstances.

### Is legal advice included if I already pay for a Rusetat service?

Yes. Every paid service across the Rusetat catalogue includes legal advice relevant to that service. Tell the team which engagement you have so your consultation can be coordinated with the advice already included.

### Can I request a consultation before choosing an application service?

Yes. Request Visa Consultation and explain your questions. The team will set out the scope, adviser, appointment arrangements and any consultation charge before you commit.

### Does a consultation guarantee approval?

No. The relevant authority decides the application and admission. The consultation helps you understand your circumstances and next actions; it does not control an official decision.

### Should I send my passport with the first enquiry?

No. Send a brief description first. The team will explain any documents needed and an appropriate sharing process.
